This week I started my quest to find another insurance provider. I printed out my policy docs (after once again enraging myself at the thought that they want to increase my premium so much), and spoke to my first call centre agent of the week.
We had a lovely chat (I actually don’t mind talking with the agents, as long as the call was initiated from my side and was not unsolicited) and while we waited for the quotes to generate we joked around. When I heard her gasp though, I knew it was bad news.
The number the system spat out was an effective 41% increase on my current premium. And that was just for the car, we hadn’t even gotten around to the home contents insurance yet. No amount of excess fiddling or benefit tweaking would have brought that number down. She thanked me for my time and I ended the call.
I’m pretty sure that it’s because all the banks dinged my credit record in December when we did the bond applications. As far as I know, that kind of action hangs around on the record for at least three months, even if the applications are successful (which they all were).
What it seems like is I’ll have to negotiate the increase down with my current insurer (to like 10%), and hang on a few months while my record settles down, then try again with the other places. Sigh.
I wrote my last exam for 2017 today, in a venue where 15 years ago, I once attended a day-long Spin The Flava hip hop dance concert/workshop. I was 13. Aaaaaaaah!
At least the exam went well. Now I get to sleep off this horrid week of studying. First to find some wine…
I just received my “annual policy review” from my insurer. You know what they can do with the 22% increase to my premium they want to implement from 1 March? For me, a customer of 3 years with no claim history, and needing to add building insurance and increase my current home contents cover?
So now I know that three days of my post-exam honeymoon will be filled with calls to various contact centres, as well as blocking numbers from those same contact centres for the next few months. Joy! Either way, at the end of those 3 days, I’m either going to have my premium kept the same, or I’m off to a new insurer.
After celebrating last week after I won something for the first time, I got a sms yesterday morning saying that I won one of the three glass cookware sets that the PNP up the road was giving away last week.
The SO and I had driven from the Woolies across the road from us to the other Woolies 6 minutes away 2 Friday nights ago because we were looking for rotisserie chicken (smoothies were not going to cut it). Of course, it being after 7pm already, all the chickens were sold out. We then trudged to the PNP to get chicken there.
As we left the deli counter, hubby noticed a sign on top saying if you spent >R100 at the bakery or deli you could enter the competition. On a whim, I asked the person who helped us about it (she didn’t know anything about it, nor did the bakery lady). Turns out the entry box was under the customer care counter (???). The guy checked and said there were only 2 slips inside, so mine was the 3rd in.
Hubby mentioned it on Saturday, wondering if we were going to win or not. I said it was probably one of those competitions where they never actually award the prize…
I ended up using the 2.5l bowl to store the lunch food for the week (slowcooked chicken and stirfry veg in a creamy thyme sauce) and the middle bowl to store tomorrow’s supper and Friday’s lunch (ostrich sausage bredie with butter beans). Thanks PNP!
While I don’t have any sports clothes, I did put on a workout outfit and a natural makeup look (or as natural as I’m willing to go anyway)
Tonight is my older sister’s bridal shower, so fortunately since I already have my workout clothes on, when I get home I can immediately do a 30 min lower body workout, shower and get my glam on. I may update this post later with a photo, although this phone‘s camera is so, so very wack, I prefer not to take any pictures at all.
I miss you so much
I’ve been quiet on the blog lately, due to an incident within the family a few weeks ago, which in combination with an increase in work/school activities has really taken the Force out of me.
We celebrated the 10th anniversary of my husband asking me to be his girlfriend yesterday, after a lovely long weekend away in Citrusdal. It also would have been our wedding day, if my husband hadn’t decided he couldn’t wait any longer to officially claim me hahaha.
We came home to discover the first of Tierney’s eggs hatched on schedule, and that the two neighbourhood cats who have decided that we are their feeders did not forget us after the long weekend.
I’m nearing the end of my assignments for the first year of Hons, so that’s good. I’m also back on my epic revamp, since my clothes are now fighting me.
I’ve rediscovered my affinity for dubstep and chillstep, and am now addicted to Gintama.
After a 2 week honeymoon, I’m back at work today. This week is going to be hectic, but I’m going to try to return to my normal post schedule.
